Girls Night Out on the Ice

Tonight I surprised the girls with tickets to Disney On Ice. The show was fantastic. The girls clapped and sang along, and I have to admit I found myself doing the same. Coming to the Disney ice shows has become a yearly tradition for us!

Storms and more storms

     This past week we have had several tornado threats in the area, and luckily we did not experience more than hard rain, some hail and strong winds. No damage in Evansville, but quite a bit in all of the towns surrounding Evansville--even northern Vanderburgh county received some damage. The first day we awoke to the sirens going off outside because of a tornado warning, so we all piled into our bathroom. The second day, today, we were all at school/work. The hardest part during storms, for me, is when Greg, the girls and I are separated. I worry so much about the girls when I am not with them during storms. Hopefully, this was the end of it for us, but considering it is the first week of March, I am sure we are not through all of it yet this spring.

A Little Time Away

     Four nights and three days.  Last weekend, Greg had a football conference in St. Louis.  He was the only coach attending, so he asked me to attend with him.  To most going to a football conference with their husband probably sounds boring, but not to me.  I was ready for a little down time of my own.  It is not often that I get time to myself.  I am not trying to sound selfish, but I need some down time.  It rejuvenates me and makes me a better mother and wife.  Friday morning when Greg left his first sessions of the conference, I stayed curled up in bed and slept until almost 10:30.  When I woke up, I spent the next thirty or so minutes just lying in bed and watching what I wanted to watch on TV.  Yes, "House Hunters"--my addiction.  During Greg's lunch break we enjoyed a very cold walk around downtown and found a fun, old diner. After lunch, we attended beer school at Anheuser-Busch.  Greg and I several years ago had taken the tour of the brewery, so this time we opted to only do the beer school.  If anyone needs help with learning to pour their beer or what foods to pair with certain beers, Greg and I are now Honorary Brewmaster and can assist you.  We even have the certificate to prove it.  After lunch and our beer school, Greg had to get back for his next sessions.  I made sure I used my time wisely--I napped.  Later that evening, we went to a bar on the very top floor of the hotel called 360.  The bar had a great view of the city; however, a bit to classy for Greg and I.  Saturday I made sure to get a little shopping in and am very proud to say I spent very little but did enjoy the day. 
     The girls spent the entire weekend with Aunt Crystal, Uncle Aaron and the boys.  Alicynn and Faith were angels, and I have been told they did not even fight one time over the weekend.  Now, if I can only figure out the magic spell Crystal must have placed on them, it may be a bit quieter around our house.  Knowing the girls were in great hands and behaving made Greg's and my weekend that much better.  The two of us came home refreshed and ready for the busy week ahead of us. 
 

Been A Long Time

A year and a half later, and I decided to begin blogging again. Looking back, I wish I would have kept up with my blogging as it would be great to go back and read all of my posts as my two beautiful girls grew.  Alicynn and Faith each day continue to grow into two beautiful young ladies. 

Each girl is very different.  Alicynn is very musically inclined and in January competed in her first competition called ISMA (Indiana State Music Association); she earned a gold medal. Alicynn would not let Greg or I sit in the room when she performed because we make her nervous; I do not really blame her either as I would be nervous if my parents would have listened to me singing as I was being judged.  We were so very proud of her.  She sang "Amazing Grace." 

Faith loves playing sports and of course is very competitive.  Last summer she was on a "travel" softball team.  I use the word "travel" loosely as one weekend we traveled to Santa Claus (45 minutes away), Henderson (15 minutes), Newburgh (15 minutes) and the Evansville area.  She loved it and met many new girls in which she is really good friends with now.  Usually she played in the catcher position.  She did a great job and took several beatings as the equipment did not fit her very well, but considering her size, it fit her the best it ever would.

Greg is still working at E.I. Sports, and I am still teaching at Memorial.  Our lives are very busy, but we have worked really hard at balancing things better.  Since our attempt to be home more often, we have actually done really well with it, and I really think it has made a difference in our girls (and mommy).

Gotta Love Three Day Weekends

Fall Festival and Fall Break! The girls and I enjoyed the Fall Festival again this year without daddy (as he has a goal each year to avoid the festival). The girls and I tried many yummy and delectable festival foods, rode rides and played games. Sadly, the fish that Faith won and named Princess died within a day of bringing her home. Actually the poor little fish never even received its first meal. The fish was won on Wednesday evening, and we went after school Thursday to buy food. When we arrived home, poor little Princess had already died; therefore, we had the traditional, yet classic, toilet flushing funeral with a prayer.
Friday, the girls and I enjoyed our day off of school. Luckily, we were able to meet up with Greg and BW3s for lunch! Then, the girls and I enjoyed and afternoon at the very uncrowded mall (I think everyone else was down on Franklin Street). Greg and I have discovered how much more selective the girls are when they have their own money to spend. So, the girls didn't purchase much. Mommy, however, was not so lucky. As the girls are constantly getting taller, I had to buy them some new pants for the fall- at least the pants were either on sale or clearance.
The girls went with Aunt Crystal and Uncle Aaron for the annual trip to the pumpkin patch to select the best pumpkins to carve. The girls are able to carve almost on their own now. We have two beautifully carved pumpkins- a Winnie the Pooh pumpkin and Haunted House pumpkin. As the girls enjoyed their time carving pumpkins, Greg and I had a date night- off to see a movie and have dinner. Good Times.

Been Awhile

The Delancy family sure has been busy! Summer has passed us by. As a family we were able to take a four day vacation to Gatlinburg; however, getting there was nerve wracking as our radiator had to be replaced. The girls and I then traveled down to Florida to visit Tina for a week.
Fall is in full swing at our house. Greg is busy with football, and unfortunately, this season has not been very successful. The girls are busy as ever. Alicynn is involved with volleyball and her school team is doing very well. The tournament begins Sunday! Alicynn is also taking piano lessons (for the last year) and loves it. Her piano teacher is an amazing woman. Currently, Alicynn is trying to find the most convincing argument to give her father and I for her "need" of a cell phone. She is not winning her battle though. Too young! Faith is as fiesty but as sweet as ever. She will be making her first Reconciliation next month and in May her First Communion. Time sure does fly. She is looking forward to the start of basketball season as this will be her first year. And, I am busy with school work. This year I have four AP English classes which translates in to a LOT of papers to grade, but on a positive note, I do love my classes and look forward to teaching them.

We have been home now for a week. The girls and I had a great time visiting Tina, Evan and Alex. My mom and neice Alyssa made the journey to Florida with us. They were great company. But, we are happy to be home and enjoying our new home.

Many New Changes

Summer has begun and the Delancys have been extremely busy. Since school has been out. we have moved to the Eastside. We are enjoying all the spacious living and storage area in our new house. The closing on our old house should be soon. (I will post pictures of the house when I get back to Evansville.) The girls and I (along with my mom and niece Alyssa) are in Florida. My best friend of twenty-five years got married this weekend. She was a beautiful bride, and her wedding was absolutely gorgeous. I have to admit I did get choked up during the vows. Faith was the flower girl and Alicynn passed out the programs and tended to the guest book. We are now just enjoying our visit with Tina, Evan and Alex. Yesterday we went to the beach, today we did a little shopping, and tomorrow we are getting up at 3:30 in the morning to go and watch a space shuttle launch.

We ARE Older

The girls were very ready for an updated room. The bubble gum pink walls Jamie's mom painted six years ago and the precious moment border were time to go. Alicynn was two months shy of being three when all of the went up on the walls and still in a toddler bed. Wow, how time flies. Well the girls are now sharing a room since they always want to sleep together and play in Alicynn's room anyway. Alicynn and Faith now share a much more grown up little girl room (or Alicynn would say Tween room). Faith's bedroom is now a playroom. I made a trip to Louisville on Thursday just to get the bedding; however, I did not buy the one I initially set out for. I had been trying to alter a comforter Alicynn had gotten for her birthday a couple of years ago to fit the daybed, but it became to much work. I think I would still be working on it. Alicynn and Faith had no idea what color the walls were going to be or what the bedding looked like. It was exciting to keep this from all of them. Greg "missed out" on the painting because he had a football clinic up near Indy. He came home just in time to place the furniture. Now, time to start spring break...

Born to be Stars

Alicynn and Faith both hit the stage this morning. Alicynn was a miser in her third grade play The Wishing Well, and Faith presented the 10th station at the Stations of the Cross her kindergarten class presented today. Both girls did really well and should be proud of themselves...mommy and daddy are. Their traveling fan club was in complete attendance, Mommy, (Daddy yesterday at dress rehearsal) Grandma Brenda, Grandma and Grandpa Delancy, Chasity and Aunt Crystal. Spring Break is next week and we are so excited. The girls are having their bedroom completely redone...watch for pictures of the changes.

Loosing My Mind

Is it possible to be too busy! If so, I have reached that point, and it isn't even spring where the Delancy household goes crazy with all of the activities the girls are involved in. I know I cause the majority of the chaos on my own, but still... I definitely was not on top of my game today in the classroom at all, I forget to send things with the girls to school, and quite frankly I keep forgetting to do things I am suppose to be doing. Thank God for Greg keeping me sane! He is such a trooper. On a positive note though, I found a dress this weekend for Alicynn to wear to Tina's wedding. It is sooo cute. She is going to wear it for Easter as well! She is excited that it is so "fashionable". Our next mission, which will be completed over spring break, is to find Faith's flower girl dress.

Not Much New

Not too much new is going on in the Delancy household. We are gearing up for the semi-state football game on Friday night...go TIGERS!

Greg and Faith are both batteling colds. Enjoy the few additionals pictures of Molly. She is a great day.

Molly Mae: Our New Addition

Last night we "adopted" a new family member, Molly Mae, a beagle. I have had the itch for a dog for about a year and a half now. Every time I would find one that I wanted something would fall through (usually on our part). But, the wait paid off. Yesterday morning I opened my email and had a faculty wide email from a faculty member explaining that his sister had found a beagle and was willing to give her away for free. I jumped on the idea (Greg came around). We went to meet her last night, and the whole family quickly fell in love. Apparently, she had been thrown out of a car on a country road and the lady we got Molly Mae from watched it all happen. Molly Mae was very lucky to have been found by such wonderful people who took such great care of her. Molly Mae did wonderful last night; whereas, I was up a lot checking on her to make sure she was okay. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the family adjustment to such a sweet dog.

New Days

We are definitely enjoying our new routines! Greg now takes the girls to school in the mornings, and according to the girls they sing a lot of High School Musical 3 songs in the car. I am sure shortly after dropping the girls off Greg turns the CD off and listens to ESPN radio. Greg is enjoying his new job and adjusting to a world with technology (email and chats).

Hey, Hey, Hey...Goodbye!

Goodbye Mid-America Clutch...Hello E.I. Sports. Greg's last day at Mid-America is now over, and Monday begins his new career. If I could have written a job description for Greg, it would not have been as perfect as this new job's. Time to celebrate!

Pick up your jaw...

Have you fainted, or are you still sitting in your seat! Yes the blog is finally being updated. Chasity has been twenty-one now since June, and other things have happened in our life. This fall has been extremely busy for us. Both Alicynn and Faith have been involved in soccer. I never realized that third grade soccer would be so overwhelming. Alicynn literally had either a soccer game or soccer practice 3-4 times per week. Many times Faith's practices would overlap with Alicynn's.
Greg has been busy with being a first year Cub football coach at Memorial. His team has not been extremely great with putting the numbers up on the scoreboard, but he has enjoyed the season. Saturday is his last game, and they actually will play on the Memorial football field for the first time the whole season. Greg has also taken a new job. Please pray for him and our family as he goes through this transition. I do not think I or anyone else could have written such a perfect job for him. He will be working for EI Sports on the Eastside (I guess it is time for us to move back to the Eastside now that we both work on the Eastside and the girls attend school on the Eastside). Greg will be selling sports equipment to schools. He will be in the Evansville, Mt. Vernon, North Posey, and Jasper area. He already has became more relaxed just knowing he will be out of Mid-America.
I on the other hand have been busy at school, but things are starting to calm down! I won't be grading again until the end of November as I have a student teacher this semester!!!
Back in August, the Delancy family (no not Greg and I) added a new addition. Crystal and Aaron welcomed Oliver to the family. He has had difficulty eating and a few other medical challenges, but Crystal and Aaron are doing really well adapting. Oliver is an absolutely adorable nephew.
Tina even made a trip up here back in September with her son Alex. We really enjoyed being able to spend time with Alex, oh and Tina too!

Chasity is 21!

On June 12th, Chasity celebrated her 21st birthday. My mom, her sisters, Greg, Alicynn, Faith, and I took her to Hacienda for dinner. She had two strawberry-n-orange margarittas and was a little tipsy. We had the server come out and sing to her and give her a sombrero. I can't believe she is already 21. She was born during the summer between my fourth and fifth grade school years. Don't do the math...I was 11 when she was born. It was like having another sister in the house...only she was fun because she was a baby, and I could show her off.

Young "Tiger Woods"

Alicynn and Faith began golfing lessons on Monday with Jenny Effinger (a teacher and golf coach at Memorial). The girls had so much fun and can't wait to do it again. Jenny taught them to pretend their hands were a grandfather clock...I think they are getting the idea of the arm movement. They even played ONE hole at Wesselmans.

"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"

Well, Alicynn had her tonsils and adenoids removed on Friday. She is such a trooper. All of the nurses commented that she acted so grown up for her age...not once did she complain. She took Peaches with her to the surgicare center. Peaches is her build a bear pig that has been through a lot with her. (Peaches was with her in the emergency room when she cut her foot on glass.) Peaches accompanied Alicynn into the surgery room, and she slept holding Peaches in recovery. Today she definitely was feeling better...she was doing things she knew better about doing. Her appetite is coming back...I thought she was going to eat us out of house and home!

I have finished typing and submitting my AP Literature and Composition Syllabus for approval by the College Board. Working on this has been a large task. The final product was 18 pages long. I should teach a college course now! I have never felt so relieved about a school project in all my life as when I hit the "submit" button on the computer tonight! Now, I just have to wait for approval.
